Donegal Cross Country Camp

What is it?

Camp is a voluntary opportunity for team members of the Donegal Cross Country team. Prior to the beginning of the season we take a team trip. It began and has been in the past a week long trip to Cape Henlopen State Park in Deleware. This year we will travel to the mountains of northern central PA 30 miles north of Williamsport to Maple Lake Sports Camp in Forksville, PA.

Why?

The purpose of camp is first and foremost an opportunity to create some excitement and enthusiasm for the team and the up coming season. Second, it offers runners a week of solid summer base training. In addition, it offers young runners a chance to learn more about running (training, nutrition, injury prevention). But most importantly it supports team building and provides motivation for each individual.

Who can attend?

All high school team members are eligible to attend provided that they are in excellent shape. They should be able to run 4 miles (girls) or 5-6 miles (boys) and stay with a group. Consistent summer running before camp is important! Each of the runs are challenging yet rewarding.

What do we do?

One, we run. Camp takes place during the base building phase of the cross country season where it is important to put in some miles. Second, we have fun. We go to the beach, play games, swim, hang out, canoe, play more games, have an ice cream party, and much more. I have even heard of runners attempting to catch deer!? Third, we get to know each other and start learning how to work together and encourage each other.
