2009 State Meet

Shippensburg, PA gathered the best athletes from all 12 districts for an unbelievable state track & field meet with several state and national records falling. 5 of Donegal's best female athletes made the trip, Karrie Rice, Jess McDonald, Jenn Ensminger, Amber Smith, and Tori Spence. They combined for a 4x400 meter relay team that ran 4:05.82 placing 19th at the state meet.

Tori Spence ran the open 400 Friday in the prelims, running a new school record time of 57.11, earning a place in the finals Saturday. Tori again ran a sub 58 second 400 in 57.45 placing 6th and winning a state medal. Tori became the 1st Donegal track and field athlete to win a state medal in the state's largest classification. complete results: Friday Saturday

Athletes Shine at 2009 District Meet

What a district meet to remember. Tori started the day Saturday for the Indians with another school record breaking performance. Tori ran 58.29 in placing 4th and earning a trip to the state championships next weekend. Soon after Aaron Spoonhour ran his best race of the season in the 800 meter run. His time of 2:00.65 was fast enough to place 11th overall and was the 10th fastest 800 meter run in school history.

The girls 4x400 meter relay team put the cherry on top with another outstanding performance. The relay team of Amber Smith, Jenn Ensminger, Karrie Rice, and Tori Spence broke the school record they set at leagues last week, running a time of 4:02.65. They finished 3rd overall earning the bronze medal and making the trip to the state meet next weekend. Way to go Aaron, Tori, Amber, Jenn, and Karrie. complete results

Outstanding League Meet!!!

Wow, what an awesome day. Not only was the weather great, but performances were outstanding. Two school records Saturday and 10 league medals were won. The 4x400 meter relay team capped the day winning gold for the second year in a row over Hempfield, Cedar Crest, and Manheim Township. The relay team of Amber Smith, Jenn Ensminger, Karrie Rice, and Tori Spence broke a 24 year old record with a winning time of 4:04.09, shattering the record by 3 and a half seconds

Tori Spence also won gold and broke a 26 year old record in the 400 running 58.37, improving her best time by over 1 second.

Both Olivia Leaman and Aaron Spoonhour won silver medals for their performances Saturday. Olivia came into the meet seeded 8th and threw over 100 feet 3 times with a best throw of 106' 0" to place 2nd overall. Aaron ran just off his best of the season running 4:33.47 to place 2nd to defending league champ Kevin Hull.

Karrie Rice and Jenn Ensminger both joined Tori Spence on the medal stand in the 400 meter dash placing 3rd and 4th respectively in 61.32 and 61.44. Both times moved the girls up to 7th and 8th on the Donegal Top Ten Honor Roll. Jess McDonald added to the girls point total placing 5th in the 1600 in a time of 5:24.84, the 3rd fastest mile in school history. Tori Spence also medaled in the 200 running a time of 26.44 to place 5th. Rounding out the team medals for the day were seniors Devon Brumfield in the triple jump, 8th in a jump of 40' 11.25", and Aaron Spoonhour in the 800 meter run, 5th in 2:02.49.

Great Peformances at Battle for the Bridge

Karrie Rice lead the charge of the girls side At Eartern York's Battle for the Bridge Invitational. Karrie won the 400 (62.1, # 8 on the Donegal All-Time Top 10 list), placed 2nd in the 200, and was on the winning 4x400 relay team that ran the 4th fastest time in school history (4:12.5). Joining her on the 4x400 was Amber Smith, Jenn Ensminger, and Jess McDonald.

The three girls also contributed to Donegal's strong team performance. Amber Smith placed 3rd in the 400, Jess McDonald was 2nd in the 800, and Jenn Ensminger was 3rd in the 300 hurdles(50.1, # 6 on the Donegal All-Time Top 10 list). Also contributing to the girls team score were Andrea Melhorn, 3rd in the shot put and 4th in the discus, Kristie Rice, 4th in the 200 and 6th in the 100, Olivia Leaman, 2nd in javelin, Devon Kelly, 5th in the pole vault and 4th in javelin, Jess Garber, 3rd in the long jump, Anna Kenner, 5th in the 800, and Emily Sadler, 5th in the 2 mile.

The boys were lead by the winning performances of Aaron Spoonhour in the 800 (2:01.5), Mike Robertson in the Discus (121 4), and Devon Brumfield in the triple jump (39 10). Devon also placed 2nd in the long jump. Others contributing to the boys team score were Taylor Moran, 4th in the 100, Johnnie Martin, 5th in the 100, Phillip Martin, 3rd in the 800, Rory Frey, 3rd in the 1600, Riley Thomas, 4th in the high hurdles and 6th in the triple jump, Stephen Dietrich, 4th in the pole vault, Elisha Keener, 6th in pole vault, Mack Carr, 5th in the shot put, and Tim Brosius, 4th in the discus.

Congrats to the girls team who placed 7th out of 14 teams at the White Rose Invite!!!!
