PIAA State Championships

Taylor Nissly capped off her spectacular season with two state medals in the PIAA State Championships. In the 400m race, Taylor broke her record set last week with a time of 55.38, fast enough for the 3rd place bbronze medal. Later in the 200m, Taylor placed 7th in the 200m with a time of 25.33.

District 3 Championships

4 athletes qualified to compete in the District 3 AAA championships at Shippensburg. Sprinter Taylor Nissly struck gold and qualified for next week's state championships. Taylor became Donegal's first ever AAA (large class) champion in track winning the 400m by a big margin in a time of 55.63. She also ran 25.34 and 25.44 in a head wind during the prelims and semifinals Friday to also qualify for the 200m. Saturday in the finals she ran 25.22 to win a silver medal and also qualify for the state meet next Friday.
For the boys team, Cael Rapp placed 10th in the javelin with a throw of 171' 4". Aedan Wilkinson was seeded 32nd in the high hurdles, but out ran several hurdlers to place 26th in a strong head wind with a time of 16.68. In the high Jump, Porter Scott cleared 5' 10" to tie for 16th place overall.

League Meet

Saturday's nice weather led to more great performnaces and additionalmedals taken home by athletes. Both the boys' and girls' teams placed 13th out of 22 teams with 18.5 and 15 points respectively. The girls' 4x800 of Amanda Fry, Myra naqvi, Ella Debuin, and Keri Anderson started the day with a 10th place finish in a time of 10:43.75. In the mile, Logan Fry placed 20th in a time of 4:42.99, and Amanda Fry (no relation) placed 21st in 6:20.57. After the boys 4x100 of Camden Plammer, Aedan Wilkinson, Slattery, and Joe Turbeedsky placed 18th in a time of 47.56, Taylor Nissly earned her first of two medals placing 4th in the 400m in 58.00. Later she placed 2nd in the 200m finals with a new school record time of 24.72. In the 300m hurdles Adean Wilkinson placed 13th in a time of 43.31, and Sarah hinkel ran 51.33 for 21st. In the last track races, Ryan Zuch ran an 800m race of 2:09.42, Myra had a time of 2:29.03 for 18th in the 800m, and the 4x400m boys' relay was 16th in 3:45.83.
In the field, two athletes won medals. In the girls' javelin, Hannah McNece was 7th with a throw of 111' 6", and in the boys' triple jump Porter Scott jumped 40' 55.75" for a 6th place medal. Others competing in the field events were, Nathan Brubaker who was 11th in the pole vault (10' 6"), Janella Brinser in the long jump was 20th (14' 3.5"), and Owen Kling had a 10th place finish in discus (123' 7") and an 18th place finish in the shot put (39' 6").

Friday, after an intitial down pour to start the meet, Cael Rapp continued his successful season by winning gold in the javelin. His throw of 172' 10" was long enough to be a league champ. Also winning medals were Poeter Scott and Matt Brown. Porter finished 5th in the High jump at 5'10" and matt tied for the 6th place medal at 5'6" Matt also was running over to long jump where he placed 1th with a jump of 19' 7.5. A little out of medal contention was Zach Nissley with a 9th place finish in the javelin. Also in the field, Aliza Johns placed 11th in the discus with a toss of 94' 0"and Janelle Brinser placed 15th in the pole vault at 7' 6" and 17th in the triple jump with a jump of 30' 7.25". On the track for the distance squad, Brock Overlander ran a big PR to break 11 min with a time of 10:57.30 and teammate rachel Fernald placed 14th in 13:12.40. In the sprints, Taylor Nissly won her 200m heat to move on to tomorrow's finals, Camden Plamer ran the 100m in 12.22 and the 200m in 25.56, Aedan Wilkinson placed 11th in the high hurdles in a time of 16.31, and Alex Daly finished 18th in the high hurdles with a time of 18.82.

Final Meet at Home

The girls' meet came down to the tie break with the score finishing 75-75, and the Donegal girls' team ended up with the win by having more 1st place finishes. The boys team won by a score of 96-54. Two boys were double winners, Porter Scott won the long jump and 300m hurdles and Matt Brown won the Long Jump and high Jump. His high Jump of 6' 0" moved him to a tie for the 6th highest jump in school history. Also winning events were: Aedan Wilkinson (high hurdles), Nathan Brubaker (PV), Ethan Steck (800m), Camden Palmer (200m), and Michael Linebarger (400m).
For the girls, Amanda Fry won the mile and 400m, Taylor Nissly won the 100m and 200m, Alex Daly won the high hurdles, Sarah hinkel won the 300m hurdles, McKenzie DuBusky won the 3200m, Hannah McNece won the Javelin, and Aliza Johns won the discus.

Battle for the Bridge, York vs Lancaster

The Donegal athletes took advantage of a great evening in Wrightsville and ran, threw, and jumped to many personal and season bests while earning medals and ribbons for top 6 performances. One of the highlights of the night was Taylor Nissly’s performance in the 400m. She ran 56.30, crushing the meet and school records and running the 2 nd fastest time by a LL League athlete ever. Taylor also won the 100m in 12.42.
She was unable to compete in the 200m because the weather changed quickly with lightning in the area, canceling the final 3 events on the track and ending a couple of field events early. The Lancaster contingent of girls’ squads from Donegal, Manheim Central, Solanco, Columbia, and Lancaster Catholic were in the lead girls’ title.
Also leading the Lancaster squad for Donegal with individual golds were 2 other girls. Myra Naqvi won the 800m in 2:29.38, leading the race mainly from start to finish. Hannah McNece out threw the field in the javelin with a throw of 105’ 0”.
In the field, Amaya Woods also placed in the javelin finishing 6 th with a throw of 84’ 5”. Placing 2 nd in the discus was Aliza Johns with a toss of 99’ 7”, and Janelle Brinser placed 5 th in the triple jump with her 3 leaps of 29’ 7.25”. On the track for the girls, Amanda Fry ran an incredible last lap to run the 10 th fastest mile in school history and place 4 th in 5:36.77. And in the 300m hurdles, Sarah Hinkel placed 6 th with a time of 53.43.
The boys’ squad had 2 individual golds and a third athlete that tied for 1 st when a field event was not completed. Cael Rapp won the Javelin with a throw of 172’ 9” and Matt Brown won the high jump with a leap of 5’ 10”. Nathan Brubaker had cleared 10’ in the pole vault before the meet was canceled. He and 2 others were working towards clearing 10’6” and finish in a tie for 1 st place.
Matt Brown also placed in the long jump finishing 6 th with a jump of 18’ 5.25”. His fellow jumper Porter Scott also had a big night placing 2 nd in the High Jump in 5’10”, finishing 4 th in the triple jump with a jump of 41’ 1.25”, and crossing the finish line in 6 th in the 300m hurdles with a time of 43.78. Four athletes finished 4 th overall, Ryan Zuch in the 800m with a time of 2:06.83, Aedan Wilkinson in the high hurdles with a time of 16.37, Owen Kling with a toss of 125’ 2”, and Zack Nissley with a Javelin throw of 144’8”. Placing 6 th in the meet were Logan Fry in the mile with a time of 4:43.94 and Bailey Crager in the javelin with a throw of 132’ 10”. The Lancaster squad for the boys was trailing at the end of the meet.

LMH Home Meet

Both squads came out of the meet with victories to run their records to 5 wins and 1 loss. The boys won 107-43, and the girs won 121 to 27. Nine different boys were individual winners with 3 of those winning 2 events. Porter Scott won the 300m hurdles and triple jump, Owen Kling won the shot and disc, and Matt Brown won the long jump and high jump. On the track, Aedan Wilkinson won the high hurdles, Jack Dearborn won the 200m, Nathan Brubaker won the 400m, and Logan fry won the 800m race. In the field, Cael Rapp won the javelin and T. Younger won the Pole vault.
For the girls, 9 different athletes also won events. In the field, Janelle Brinser won the Long jump, triple jump, and pole vault, Aliza Johns won the discus, Hannah mcNece won the javelin, and Amaya Woods won the high jump. On the track, Myra Naqvi won the 800m, Amanda Fry won the 1600m, Taylor Nissly won the 100m, 200m, and 400m, Alex Daly won the high hurdles, and Sarah Hinkel won the 300m hurdles.

Millersville Invite

Taylor Nissly had a big night winning the 100m in 12:48, placing 3rd in the 400m, and running 25.29 in the 200m to finish 3rd. Hannah McNece placed 4th in the javelin with a throw of 103' 2", and Aliza Johns was 8th in the discus with a throw of 91' 9". The girls 4x800m relay also placed 8th with a time of 10:43.81.
For the boys, Cael Rapp placed 4th in the javelin with a throw of 157' 6" and Owen Kling was 6th in the discus with a throw of 123' 2". The boys 4x800m relay placed 5th with a time of 8:54.54, and the freshman boys 4x100m relay team of Kevin Slattery, Camden Palmer, Jack Dearborn, and Joe Turbedsky set a new freshman record of 48.61. Just missing the top 8 at 9th place were Nathan Brubaker in the pole valut (11' 3") and Porter Scott in the high Jump (6'0").

ELCO Dual Meet

The boys' and girls' squads both lost their first meets of the season to very good ELCO squads. The boys' meet was very close with a score of 77-73. Despite the losses, there were a few great individual performannces. Taylor Nissly won the 100m, 200m, and 300m, and three individual girls on the distance squad won events, Amanda Fry (1600m), Ella DeBruin (800m), and McKenzie DuBusky (3200m). DeBruin and Fry combined with Keri Anderson and Myra Naqvi to win the 4x800m race. In the field Janelle Brinser (PV) and Aliza Johns (discus) were individual winners. For the boys, Cael Rapp threw the winning javelin throw of 178'8", placing him 4th all-time at Donegal. Jared Collazo won the 100m and 200m sprints, and in the field, Porter Scott won the triple jump, and Matt Brown won the high jump. Jared also was part of two winning relays, the 4x100m with Camden Palmer, Jack Dearborn, and Mathew Jackson, and the 4x400m with Aedan Wilkinson, Jack Dearborn, and Joe Turbedsky. The boys' squad also won the third relay, the 4x800m, with runners Ryan Zuch, Logan Fry, Ethan Steck, and Brock Overlander.

At Twin Valley Invite

Taylor Nissly had a fantastic night winning the 200m and placing 2nd in the 400m. Her times of 25.11 in the 200m and 58.45 in the 400m were her season best times, and the 400m time was a personal best. In the sprints, she and the girls' sprint medley placed 2nd (4:49.48), Jared Collazo finished 3rd in the 100m (11.11 prelims, 11.17 finals) with Matthew Jackson close at 5th (11.45 prelims, 11.43 finals),the 4x100m team placed 5th in a time of 46.10, and Aedan Wilkinson sprinted to 5th in high hurdles (16.10prelims, 16.14 finals).
In the field, Porter Scott placed 4th in the high jump (5' 7"), Matt Brown 6th with the same height, Aliza johns was 5th in the Discus (100' 2"), Owebn Kling finished 6th in the Shot (40' 6.75"), Hannah McNece took silver in the javelin (107' 7"), and Cael Rapp won a silver in the javelin as well (157' 6").

Home vs Lancaster Catholic

On a beautiful sunny day, the Donegal athletes took their performances up a notch to pull off wins. The boy throwers swept the field in the javelin, shot and discus, with Cael Rapp (Jav/ shot) and Connor Ruhl (disc) picking up the wins. Aedan Wilkinson won both hurdle races and Jared Collazo won the 100m and 200m to pick up important points in the sprints. Brock Overlander picked up the win in the 2 mile for the distance squad, and the boys' team won both the 4x400m and 4x800m races. In the jumps, Matt Brown (Long jump and HJ) and Nathan Brubaker (pole vault) picked up wins.
Taylor Nissly lead the girls with 3 individual wins (100, 200, 400m) and Alex Daly won both hurdle races to sweep the individual 1st place points in the sprints. The distance squad also scored victories with wins in the 800m by Myra Naqvi, 1600m by Amanda Fry, and 3200m by Rachael Fernald. The girls also won the 4x400m and 4x800m relays. In the field, Janelle Brinser won the polevault.

New Balance Pan Ram Invite

On Saturday, April 13, Donegal competed against 30 teams in the competitive Pan Ram Invite at Central Dauphin.  The boys’ squad placed 16th and the girls’ squad placed 21st.  Cael Rapp lead all performers with a 2nd place finish overall in the javelin throwing 166’ 10”.  The other point scorer for the boys was Porter Scott.  He jumped 6’0” in the high jump to finish 4th.  Placing for the girls, and each with 4th place finishes were Taylor Nissley (100m, 12.61) and Hannah McNece (Javelin, 105’ 7”).

Donegal runs, throws, and jumps record to 3-0

Both the boys' and girls' squads moved to 3-0 this season with wins over Annville, 89-61 and 87-63 respectively, and the athletes took advantage of the good meet conditions with many, many outstanding individual performances on the track and in the field.
Taylor Nissly broke her school record winning the 100m, running 11.9, 0.3 seconds faster than she ran last season. Porter Scott couldn't quite pull off a school record in the high jump, but did clear 6'3" to win the high jump for the second highest jump in school history. He was joined in the high jump by Matt Brown who cleared 5'11" to make the Donegal Top Ten Honor Roll. Joining them on the honor roll was Jared Collazo and Cael Rapp. Jared ran 11.0 to win the 100m for the 6th fastest time in school history, and Cael had a winning throw of 170'10" in the Javelin for the 10th longest in school history.
Other winners were Aedan Wilkinson in the110m high hurdles and 300m hurdles, Logan Fry (1600m), Jared Collazo (200m), Cael Rapp (Shot Put), and Porter Scott (Triple Jump). Winning for the girls' team were: Alex Daly (100m hurdles), Hadley Shoaf (1600m), Taylor Nissly (200m and 400m), Myra Naqvi (800m), Janelle Brinser (Triple Jump), and Hannah McNece (Jav).

Donegal hosts Columbia-April 1

On a chilly, windy day many Donegal athletes had personal bests. The girls' squad had eleven different girls place first. Double winners were Taylor Nissly (100m, 12.2 and 200m, 25.8), Alex Daly (100m High Hurdles, 19.0 and 300m Hurdles, 56.5), and Janelle Brinser (Triple Jump, 30' and Pole Vault, 7'). Other winners were Aliza Johns (Discus, 95' 5"), A. Berry (Shot Put, 30' 4.5"), Hannah McNece (Javelin, 102' 8"), Amaya Woods (High Jump), Hadley Shoaf (1600m, 5:52.1), Mia Steffy (400m, 71.7), Myra Naqvi (800m, 2;37.4), and Rachel Fernald (3200m). The girls also won the 1600m and 3200m relays.
The boys' squad scored 148 points to Columbia's one. They swept all three relays and had double wins from Aedan Wilkinson (110m High Hurdles, 18.0 and 300m Hurdles, 45.9), Jared Collazo (100m, 11.2 and 200m, 24.3), Logan Fry (1600m, 4:57.4 and 800m, 2:16), Matt Brown (Long Jump, 19'5" and High Jump, 5'10"), and Cael Rapp (Javelin, 164'10" and Shot Put, 42'1.5"). Winning the Triple Jump, Porter Scott jumped 41'9", tied for the 8th longest jump on the Donegal Honor Roll. Other winners were Nathan Brubaker (Pole Vault, 10'), Owen Kling (Discus, 109'10"), Michael Linebarger (400m, 59.4), and Brock Overlander (3200m, 11:43.7).

Donegal visits Octorara-March 26

The 1st ever section dual meet at Octorara took place Tuesday, March 26, and both the boys' and girls' squads picked up wins to start the season. The boys' score ended 85 to 63 with three of the boys picking up double victories to lead the team. Matt Brown won the long jump (19' 8") and the high jump (5' 10"), Jared Collazo won the 100m (11.59) and 200m (24.47) sprints, and Porter Scott won the triple jump (40"4") and the 110m high hurdles (18.02). Other event winners were: Brandon Hess (2 mile), Nate Brubaker (pole vault), and Cael Rapp (javelin). All times were FAT (subtract .24 to convert to hand held time).
The girls' team won 79-66 and were led by Taylor Nissly and Janelle Brinser with 3 individual wins each. Taylor won the 100m (12.73), 200m (26.93), and 400m (60.31), and Janelle won the Long Jump (13' 11.5"), Triple Jump (30' .5"), and the pole vault. Other winners were: Hannah McNece (Jav), Aliza Johns (Discus), and Myra Naqvi (800m). The girls' squad also picked up wins in the 4x400m and 4x800m relays.

Congratulations to Duane Koser and Kelsey (Buffenmyer)McNeal on their 2019 induction to
the Donegal Hall of Fame.

Kelsey was top point scorer on the team all 4 years, school record holder in the high jump and long jump, 3 time LL League champ in the high jump, 5 additional individual League medals, 3 AA District 3 championships, 8 additional District 3 medals, 3 top 3 finishes and medals at the PIAA championships.
Duane won 3 individual league titles in the 2 mile, a district 3 2 mile champion with 2 additional district 3 medals, and a 3rd place finish in the 2 miles at the PIAA State Championships. In cross country, Duane won 3 District III medals, runner-up one year and a District champ the next year setting a new course record of 16:02.3. He ran at states twice, finishing 2nd at the PIAA state championships his senior year. He has also coached several successful cross country and track teams and individuals.
